Growing together.The Patient Pay Billing Representative plays a critical role within Optum, a division of UnitedHealth Group, supporting patient account resolution and delivering a high-quality financial experience. This role contributes directly to improving healthcare access and outcomes by ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant collection of patient balances. The position offers the flexibility to work remotely within the United States while being part of a high-performing team dedicated to operational excellence and patient satisfaction. This position is full time. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our shift schedules during our normal business hours of 10:00 am - 7:00 pm CST, including a one-hour lunch break.This will be on the job training and the hours during training will be on normal business hours. Primary Responsibilities:<ul><li>Review and prioritize open Accounts Receivable (AR) for patient collections </li><li>Handle inbound patient calls and conduct outbound collections outreach </li><li>Ensure timely and accurate follow-up on delinquent accounts </li><li>Collaborate with onshore and offshore teams to drive account resolution within target timelines </li><li>Analyze, document, and manage key accounts and escalations </li><li>Identify trends or issues and escalate to leadership as needed </li><li>Deliver excellent customer service to patients and internal stakeholders </li><li>Ensure compliance with all regulatory, payer, and company policies </li><li>Process Account Receivable reviews and correction requests within defined turnaround times </li><li>Processing patient payments</li><li>Support additional tasks and projects as assigned </li></ul> You’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in. Required Qualifications:<ul><li>High School Diploma / GED </li><li>Must be 18 years of age OR older </li><li>1+ years of experience in pharmacy billing and collections </li><li>1+ years of experience in medical billing and / OR collections </li><li>1+ years of experience handling patient billing customer service (via phone, email, etc.)</li><li>Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) </li><li>Ability to read and interpret EOBs (Explanation of Benefits) </li><li>Ability to work any full-time shift between 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM CST, including a one-hour lunch break </li></ul> Preferred Qualifications:<ul><li>Manufacturer Copay Assistance Programs OR Patient Assistance Programs experience </li><li>Experience in Home Infusion and / OR Specialty Pharmacy </li><li>Knowledge of NDC, ICD-10, HIPAA, and compliance regulations </li><li>Understanding of collections practices aligned with FDCPA guidelines </li><li>Experience in a call center OR voice-based role </li><li>Experience handling patient medical collections, including follow-up and payment resolution </li></ul> Telecommuting Requirements:<ul><li>Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)</li><li>Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy.</li><li>Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service.</li></ul> Soft Skills:<ul><li>Strong communication and customer service skills </li></ul> *All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group’s Telecommuter Policy Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $18 - $32 per hour based on full-time employment.
