About this Job

The incumbent is responsible for fostering a connection between fisheries resources and the public through outreach, education and access. This position will assist in hosting workshops for the public and aquatic resource educators, communicate the Department’s programs to a wide variety of user groups, and aim to provide new fishing opportunities throughout the state.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Knowledge of Louisiana aquatic organisms and plants
  • Knowledge of freshwater and saltwater fishing techniques
  • Skilled in Adobe Creative Suite applications
  • Good observational and analytical skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Good organizational skills and ability to coordinate events and volunteers

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in a biological science, marine science, environmental science, wildlife or fisheries, animal science, forestry, or natural resources.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties: Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Coordinates and assists in administering fishing education programs, workshops and events statewide
  • Develop and deliver presentations, demonstrations, and interactive fisheries educational activities
  • Communicates department programs to diverse audiences and user groups
  • Communicates with certified volunteer instructors and event coordinators
  • Plan and implement outreach programs for youth, families, and educators
  • Develop and conduct training programs for volunteers and assist in delivering workshops
  • Collaborates with agency staff and the graphic designer to develop educational materials
  • Uses software programs to manage events, create presentations, and develop outreach content
  • Conducts site visits to community fishing sites for stockings, program enhancements, and workshops
  • Maintain records, reports, and databases; and assist with website/social media updates
  • Plan and implement outreach programs for youth, families, and educators
Position-Specific Details: Appointment Type: Probational Appointment, Job Appointment, Detail to Special Duty, Promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency-wide permanent status employees)

Career Progression: This position may be filled as Biologist 1, 2, or 3.

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience

Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
