Medical Technical Specialist Labs Labs Biochemistry

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides technical expertise in Biochemistry and acts as a technical resource person for staff and physicians
  • Assists and supports the Operations Leader in the smooth running of the day-to-day operations of Biochemistry,
  • Reviews, authorizes and releases reporting of referral testing and unexpected results, providing continuity of reporting
  • Assists the Operations Leader in staff schedules to provide coverage for routine bench rotational shifts, weekends, on-call and vacation
  • Committed to continuing education in Biochemistry and shares knowledge with bench technologists
  • Trains staff through educational sessions and hand-on training pertaining to the use of new equipment and/or methodologies
  • Responsible for the provision of Quality Management, including proficiency testing
  • Responsible for ACDx, CSA, and other applicable standards and requirements in Biochemistry are met
  • Participates in the development and implementation of policies, processes and procedures established byACDx and other applicable regulatory bodies
  • Provides teaching and technical direction to technologists, medical residents and Biochemistry fellows as well as oversees teaching MLT students
  • Promotes research, staff and studies and contributes to professional publications, presentations and posters
  • Communicates and assists with the practices of policies and procedures pertaining to laboratory safety
  • Performs other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be currently registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
  • Must have a minimum 4 years recent experience in Biochemistry
  • Must be proficient and demonstrate expertise in the area of Biochemistry
  • Recent experience with high volume automation
  • Must be willing to take initiative and responsibility in decision making
  • Advanced Registered Technologist certification or equivalent preferred
  • Bachelor’s of Science degree preferred
  • Experience in quality principles, teaching, research/development are an asset
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education is an asset
  • Must be able to work independently and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment
  • Must possess strong interpersonal, communication and writing skills
  • Must demonstrate competence in problem-solving and decision making (critical thinking)
  • Must be a team player able to work cooperatively with other team members
  • Must be committed to the Hospital’s mission and values and promote patient centered care
  • Must have an excellent attendance record
